LENAU PARK
In 1970 the Danube Swabians’ original home, Banater Club, became too small. Members searched for a property that could accommodate our growing membership and found such a property on Columbia Road in Olmsted Township and purchased it with donations by members. Soon after, soccer fields, tennis courts, a small lake and a bar and restroom facilities were built for the club’s summer activities.
The official dedication and grand opening of the clubhouse was on May 17th and 18th, 1986. The Clubhouse is a multilevel building; the lower level contains a two-lane bowling alley, a party room, a dance practice room, meeting rooms, an indoor soccer field and locker rooms. The main floor hosts a large ballroom, kitchen facilities and a large bar. The upper level houses a large Board room and offices. In 1996 a front lobby was added to the building and throughout the years many updates have been made.
The namesake of Lenau Park, Nikolaus Lenau, was a famous German poet, who in 1832 came to Ohio and became a farmer. After a few months he returned to his homeland and spent the rest of his short life there.
